| Co-Registration Exposed - Part 3 |
Welcome back. In this article, I am going to outline the different types of co registration out there, and expose the strengths and weaknesses.
While reading this, be sure to keep a copy of Co Registration:Exposed pt 2 handy as some of the info I am referring to is in there.
We know that co registration is simply an advertising technique. Here are 3 ways to do it.
1. Pay Someone Else To Do It For You. These kinds of services are known by a different name: Lead generation services. You pay them a fee depending on how many leads you wish them to generate for you, and they do the rest.
Strengths: It's the quickest way to get started. The only thing you need is deep pockets to pull this off.
Weaknesses: For starters, the expense. You will need at least $200 to get going, and it can cost way more than that depending on who you buy from and the quality of information you are getting.
Also, it's also the most risky. Trustworthy, reliable vendors are hard to come by. Lead sharing is common, and it takes up to 30 days to receive the data.
Finally, the people who sign up may not have an interest in what you are offering. What happens when you purchase leads is you are grouped according to broad categories such as 'make money online', 'sports and leisure', 'computers and the internet'.
If for example, your list pertains to New York Yankees baseball, you would be placed in the group 'sports and leisure'. So would a list pertaining to Extreme Skiing, Auto Racing, or Fishing. This means even if the leads are any good ( up to 75% evaporate on the first mailing for various reasons), they are so un-targeted, you will be lucky if 5% of your list opts translates into loyal readers or customers. This ratchets up the costs even more as you are going to need a ton of leads to develop a decent size list.
If you decide to do this, do your homework or you will be sorry! Even 1% of doubt will equal 100% pain later on when you least expect it.
2. Join a Co Registration Exchange. If you know how traffic exchanges work, then you already know how co registration exchanges work. You put some special popup code on your website (usually on your thank you for signing up page), and for every sign-up you generate for others on the exchange, you get one back.
Strengths: It costs nothing but some minor work to get started. You sign up, place the code on your website, and they do all the rest for you. Since leads generated via an exchange are delivered in real time, and are never shared, the spam risk is no different than using a simple opt in form on your website.
Weaknesses: You need to be generating targeted traffic to get it going. If you don not have traffic, you can pay a monthly fee to get sign-ups for your list without generating any yourself, but it is no where near as costly as option number one.
Also realize this has the same targeting problems as option number one. So you may have to go through several exchanges to find one that works for you.
If you have a low spam tolerance (like I do) and have no money to spend (and can generate at least some traffic), this is the way to go. Get started here, and move onto other methods as soon as you have the money to do so.
3. Do it yourself, or 'Personal Co Registration'. This is one you set up yourself. You will need the following:
A. A script or service to handle the co registration task.
B. Joint Venture Partners to co register with. Believe it or not, those are real easy to get. I'll show you how in another lesson.
Strengths: It is a fusion between options 1 and 2. It has the low spam risk of option two, and it's cheaper than option one. Unlike options one and two, it has laser like targeting, so the leads are unusually high quality. And while traffic helps, it's not totally necessary (I'll show you how in a later article).
Weakness: It requires the original formula for success called w-o-r-k. You set the script or service up, you find partners, you create the co registration pages, you do everything but run the concession stands and wash dishes. Once you put in the work, it pays off almost like a residual cash machine, raking in new leads each and every month hands free.
Unless you are completely broke, or are allergic to work, this is the absolute best option to go with in my opinion. And it is not just my opinion either. Any garden variety internet marketing guru recommends this (just show them this page and ask them about it), and all the big players in the game (think Fortune 500 companies and major websites) do it as well (except they do not joint venture, instead they simply buy advertising space on web sites to collect their leads).
So if it's so good, why have I never heard of it before? Actually, you probably have seen it before, you just were not paying attention to it. Next time you go surfing on the net, bring a notepad and pencil and see how many websites actually have some kind of 'personal co registration' they run themselves.
Ok, now I am sold. How do I get started? Well for starters, you are going to need some basic training in the care and feeding of co reg leads, which we will leave for the next lesson. Look for it in the next couple of weeks.
